Workin' In Style

I was recently given the opportunity to move in to an office at my job. Did I move? Hell yes! It feels so good to have a private work space again. Not that much of the work I do needs privacy or anything, it’s just nice not having a lot of foot traffic to deal with. I’m managing to get quite a bit more work done and being able to close the door while on a conference call or while meeting with coworkers is making a huge difference. The only downside of being in the office is that I’m starting to feel a bit disconnected from everyone. I had been sitting in an area of the floor occupied by the editorial and digital staff for nearly two yearsand even though they are about 20 feet away, I feel like I never see them anymore :(

Mellow Brand Gourmet Marshmallows

 Coconut Mellow

It’s been a while since I last wrote about what was going on with the marshmallows, and there’s quite a bit that has happened lately. I delivered several cases of marshmallows to the Hampton Market Place and things went really well! The marshmallows sold, and they now want weekly shipments! There has been some talk outside of the market place as well, including possibly providing marshmallow in bulk to caterers and a call from Whole Foods. Yes, THE Whole Foods. Continue Reading…

Homemade Tzatziki

Tzatziki - Greek yogurt and cucumber sauce

I love tzatziki. I mean, I seriously love the stuff. The creaminess of the yogurt along with the bright and clean flavors of the cucumber, dill, garlic and lemon are a perfect combination and go well with so many foods. It’s a pretty dreary day outside, so I decided to take some time and try making some on my own.

Change Is Coming

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 //0 comments

The week before last was plain shitty. Family members in the hospital, a health scare of my own, and problems at work didn’t help things either. Things took an unexpected turn for the better last Sunday, though. I’m not sure what’s going on exactly, but it’s good.

Ok – here’s an example. Not the best, or one to be terribly proud of, but a good example anyway. I typically can’t metabolize alcohol. It’s bad – 1/2 bottle of beer and I’m a total mess. Things were different on Sunday. I was in a bit of a mood and had a strong rum and coke before the Streetlight show. This should have pretty much put me down, but it didn’t. I went on to have a beer or two at the show, and drank even more at a bowling alley afterwards. I didn’t have a single problem, with the exception of being able to bowl without bumpers:

Marshmallow Madness!

Cookies and Cream Marshmallows

See those tasty cubes just above? They’re cookies and cream marshmallows. Finished making them about an hour ago. All credit on this tasty combo goes to Lisa Pezzuto.

As some of you know, I’ve been making marshmallows for the past several months. I was curious on how they were originally made, and ended up trying a few recipes on my own. After bringing a few batches to work, the President of Latina Magazine saw how much everyone enjoyed then and suggested that I go in to business (as gourmet marshmallows are obviously an under served market.) I hesitated at first, because I find that making work out of anything I enjoy tends to end in disaster, but after after enough encouragement decided to give it a shot. Continue Reading…

Streetlight Manifesto @ Ollie's Point

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 //0 comments

Streetlight Manifesto played at a bar right in my neighborhood last Sunday. Their performance was amazing – much better than their performance at Roseland back in January, even with some technical difficulties. Being in a small venue, placing me less than 15 feet away from the stage even while being in the back of the performance area, made for a great view of the stage. I managed to get a few great clips to share with the World Wide Internets:
